VIDEO: Spartans prepare for Battle
EAST LANSING - The last time Michigan State traveled to the Bryce Jordan Center, they shut down the Penn State offense for almost six minutes in the second half and got out with a 65-54 win.
But, as has been the case since 2007, the Spartans were unable to contain Talor Battle.
Over his career, Battle has consistently scored more against the Spartans than his season averages. Since scoring 17 in his first game against MSU, Battle has put up 20 or more points three times, including a 30-point night last year in State College.
Battle is currently averaging 21.1 points a game, second in the Big Ten behind Northwestern's John Shurna (21.3 pts/game).
Luckily for Michigan State, the last two weeks have seen the rise of a new defender. Freshman Keith Appling shut down Minnesota sharp-shooter Blake Hoffarber on New Year's Eve and recorded five blocks and five defensive rebounds Monday in Evanston.
Thursday night, SpartanMag.com caught up with Appling as well as 'Battle-tested' Kalin Lucas to see how the two guards plan to limit the Talor's impact when they travel to Penn State Saturday. Use the links below to watch video of these interviews.
