Izzo sees significant team-wide growth during first workout
BERRIEN SPRINGS - Tom Izzo saw significant gains from each of the six scholarship players who participated in Michigan State's first summer workout on Monday.
Sophomores Branden Dawson and Travis Trice were the only non-participants.
"I hate to say it, but I was pleased with six of the seven guys," Izzo said. "(Travis) Trice has been sick a little bit so he didn't work out. But I have been really pleased with (Derrick) Nix and (Adriean) Payne was really good. (Russell) Byrd and Keith (Appling) did a good job. Kearney is 191 pounds now. He has put on some serious weight.
"It is all exciting for me because it means that they are working. We have to put them together at the end, but they are working and that is what you've got to have in the summer."
