Maize N' View: Incumbents must stave off competition
Spring practice begins Saturday and will conclude April 13. In those 15 practices, young players will emerge and incumbents will aim to stave off the competition. With the increase in talent, some of those veterans, like Thomas Gordon, will have to keep one eye over their shoulder.
Here is a look at a few Wolverines that will face strong challenges in their bid to maintain their starting jobs.
Safety Thomas Gordon: The 5-11, 207-pounder has started 26 games over the past three seasons but hasn't exactly proven a playmaker for the Wolverines, recording just three interceptions and four pass breakups as U-M's free safety. Two years ago he lost his job midway through the year to Troy Woolfolk while last year he was more consistent but still didn't emerge a difference-maker.
