Video: Payne explains why he's returning
EAST LANSING - Michigan State coach Tom Izzo had a feeling that his star junior Adreian Payne was leaning toward the NBA draft when he and his assistant coaches Dwayne Stephens and Dane Fife left town for a weekend of recruiting on Friday.
Truth be told, Payne was probably leaning toward the NBA Draft when his coaches left campus on Friday. But following weeks of careful deliberation, Payne decided that returning to Michigan State was his best option.
Payne announced his decision during a press conference at the Breslin Center on Sunday night.
The 6-foot-10 junior would have been a likely first-round selection in the 2013 NBA Draft if he had foregone his final year of college eligibility.
Payne is just 15 credit hours from his college degree.
