Marble likes what he heard from McCaffery

After officially taking over as the new head coach at the University of Iowa on Monday, Fran McCaffery has been wearing out his cell phone doing various radio interviews. More importantly, he has been working the phones reaching out to the four signed commitments in the Class of 2010 and trying to keep them with the Hawkeyes. On Tuesday evening he touched base with future Hawkeye Devyn Marble and he liked what he heard from his new coach.

"I really liked talking to him," Marble said. "He was a great to talk to and I am excited. He talked to me about playing in his system and I am anxious to meet him in person next week."

The 6-foot-5 guard said he spoke with Coach McCaffery for about 15 minutes and his new coach plans on traveling to Michigan in the middle of next week to meet him and his mother in person.

The discussion also moved into how Coach McCaffery sees Marble fitting into his system once he gets to Iowa City.

"The way he talked, it seemed like he had seen me play before. He knew a lot about my game and how I played. He said he was excited about having me play for him."

Marble said that the conversation on Tuesday evening eased any question he might have about the coaching change and he is on board with the Hawkeyes.

"He really made me feel very comfortable about my decision," Marble said.

The four commits in the Class of 2010 have developed a very strong bond through the recruiting process and they have been in touch with each other on a daily basis throughout the search process.

"I've talked to Cody and to Ben. We talk quite a bit, especially Ben and I. We have been keeping in touch through the search and now that we have a new coach."
