Basabe makes it official

After visiting the University of Iowa earlier this week, Melsahn Basabe said he wanted to go home and talk over his recruitment with his family. The talk didn't last very long as the 6-foot-7 forward originally from Glen Cove, NY announced on Twitter this afternoon that he will be a Hawkeye this fall.

"It's Official... I'm an Iowa Hawkeye now," he said via his twitter feed on Saturday afternoon.

Basabe had originally signed with Coach Fran McCaffery and Siena in November during the early signing period. When McCaffery was hired by the University of Iowa in March, Basabe waited until Siena hired a new coach and then asked for and was granted a release from his letter of intent.

He had indicated once he received his release that Iowa would be his first visit due to the comfort level he had with Coach McCaffery and Coach Andrew Francis. He, along with his mother, made the official visit to Iowa City this week and headed back home on Friday morning.
