V-Cast: Comp and PK on thriller with Indiana
EAST LANSING - The Spartan basketball team pulled themselves off the mat with a hard-fought 84-83 overtime victory against Indiana at the Breslin Center Sunday evening. Afterward SpartanMag.com staffers Jim Comparoni and Paul Konyndyk discussed what the win meant to the Spartans who had entered the game in the midst of a rare three-game slide. Kalin looks like Kalin: For the second consecutive game, Spartan senior Kalin Lucas has played like the player many expected to be the Big Ten MVP in 2010-2011. Lucas scored 26 points on 8-of-18 shooting. The Spartan senior was 7-of-8 at the free-throw line.
Below is a list of some of the topics discussed by Comp and PK in this V-Cast:
Nix comes up big: Sophomore center Derrick Nix had his biggest game of the season with 9 points on 3-of-4 shooting while playing 23 minutes. Nix accounted for all of Michigan State's bench production.
The Z Word: Izzo mentioned the possibility of playing zone defense as a way to keep his troops out of foul trouble during a pre-game interview with Will Tieman and Gus Ganakas. During the post-game, he again mentioned the possibility of playing some zone defense. Izzo has brought the possibility up several times over the years, but has yet to do so. Will Michigan State take drastic measures given the fact that their back is against the wall.
Zone defense could keep Draymond Green and Delvon Roe out of foul trouble. Both Spartan forwards have flirted with fouling out or have fouled out of a number of games this season. Green played much of the second half with four fouls. Roe fouled out of the game in the final minutes of regulation.
