Ways on the Spartan radar

One of the in-state players that Michigan State is keeping a close eye on for the class of 2014 is wide receiver Maurice Ways of Detroit Country Day School. Ways just picked up his first Big Ten offer and more could be coming over the next few months. We have the latest.

Michigan State is looking for another top level wide receiver to team with current commitment Drake Harris of Grand Rapids Christian High School. The staff has already offered several impressive recruits from outside of Michigan, but Ways' is also on the radar and his stock is on the rise.

Ways had a strong year for Country Day last fall. He helped lead the team to 10-3 record and a spot in the Division 4 State Final where they lost to Grand Rapids South Christian. Ways season stats included 51 catches for 952-yards and 9 touchdowns. He receiveved numerous post-season accolades for his play, incluiding All-County, All-Metor and Honorbale Mention All-State.
Spartanmag,.com spoke with Ways and asked him about his current size, his scholarship offers and the schoosl showing him the most interest.
I am 6-foot-3 and 193-pound he said. I have offers from Iowa, Western Michigan, Toledo, Eastern Michigan and Bowling Green,. I am also hearing from Central, Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Pittsburg, and UCLA."

The Spartans currently has 1 wide receiver from Country Day on the etam in Bennie Folwer. We asked Ways if he know's Fowler and if he ahs been to Michjigan Stat ebefore.

"Yes, I know Bennie Fowler, Ways said. I was up there for camp last summer. I talk with Coach Salem and the WR coach Terry Samuel. I mostly talk to coach Salem though. They basically said they really like my film and I'm an offer worthy type guy. Since I live in Michigan they want to take their time and really get to know me as a person and not just a football player. I plan on going back up there on the 28th. I am visting Western next week and going to Northwestern on the 16th and Ohio State on the 30th."

The factthat Michigan stat eis close to home and they run a p[ro-style offense is omething that appeals to a big-physicla wide reciove rlike Ways. We asked him about hios thoughst on Michigan State
I like Michigan State and they're a program that is on the come up. They have been competing for a Big 10 title every year. I like the way they play and the swag they have when they play."
