U-M 27, Northwestern 19 (3OT): Notes, quotes & observations

For at least a week, Michigan's Team 134 silenced those who have questioned their heart, thanks to an improbable, 27-19 triple overtime victory in Evanston. That critics were out in full force following a 17-13, home loss to Nebraska that essentially eliminated the Wolverines from the Big Ten race after only five games, one in which U-M rushed for negative yardage for the second consecutive week.

It made for a defensive week in Schembechler Hall. Come to Jesus moments, circling the wagons, backs against the wall - choose your cliché, it was clear Monday that there was tension among a team that started the season with so much promise but couldn't handle the simple fundamentals, it seemed, without imploding on offense.
