A look ahead

Illinois is always rich with basketball talent, and the 2009 class is no different. Although it lacks the true star quality players like the 2006 (Sherron Collins) and 2007 (Derrick Rose) classes, it has a great deal of depth and a wide range of opinions on the players. In this report we'll take a look at the Orange and Blue News top players for this class in Illinois based upon their performance and potential.

10. Kyree Jones 6-foot-2 guard Chicago Julian

Jones has had a very good season for Julian this season, vaulting into the top 10. Transfer from Indiana is being compared to former Julian star Sean Dockery. He has played well against top competition.

9. James Kinney 6-foot-1 Guard Champaign Centennial

Kinney has stepped up in big games, but needs to gain consistency. For example, he took it to 2008 Verdell Jones one day and then had 4 points in the next game. Needs to get bigger or refine PG skills.

8. Michael Haynes 6-foot-6 Forward Chicago Washington

Undersized power forward that needs to get more skilled offensively, but he rebounds and can battle inside. If he doesn't grow it will be tough for him at the high major level unless he improves his ball handling skills.
