Trey Burke earns Big Ten Player Of The Week honors
The high-top fade might be a good look for Trey Burke.
After the sophomore point guard and his teammates collectively got an old-school haircut together, Burke exploded for 29 points, five assists and two steals in a 79-71 victory over Penn State.
The win helped the Wolverines out of a slump in which they lost three of four games.
For his efforts, Burke was name Big Ten Player Of The Week. It's his third such honor this season, and the fourth of his career.
Burke's 29 points against the Nittany Lions was a season-high, surpassing the 27 he tallied in an 81-66 victory over West Virginia in December.
It was just one point of his career-high, set in last season's Big Ten Tournament, when Burke dropped 30 points in a 73-69 win over Minnesota.
Against the Nittany Lions, Burke shot 56.3 percent from the field (9-of-16), including an impressive 3-of-4 mark from beyond the arc.
He also did not turn the ball over, which is incredible, considering the fact that he racked up 39 minutes of playing time.
This was the fifth turnover-free game of Burke's career, and it marked the most minutes he logged during a turnover-less performance. Earlier this season, Burke played 38 minutes against West Virginia and did not turn the ball over. He also did not turn the ball over against Western Michigan (31 minutes of play) and North Carolina State (37 minutes). Last year, he had a turnover-free game against Penn State, too (36 minutes).
Earlier in the week, Burke posted 18 points and four assists in a disappointing loss at Michigan State, 75-52.
