Irvin, Walton named Parade All-Americans

Two incoming Michigan freshmen were awarded with Parade All-American honors Tuesday morning.

Point guard Derrick Walton and guard Zak Irivin each made the Parade All-American team, the annual list that highlights the best high school basketball talent in the country.

Walton averaged 25.6 points and 10.2 assists per game for Harper Woods (Mich.) Chandler Park Academy, nearly winning Michigan's Mr. Basketball Award. He finished a close second in the voting to Iowa State-bound Monte Morris.

Walton is a four-star prospect, ranked the No. 37 overall player nationally by Rivals.com.

Irvin was recently granted the coveted fifth star in the Rivals.com rating system. He is the No. 24 overall player in the class, standing 6-6, 180.

Last year, Irvin won the Indiana Mr. Basketball award, becoming the second straight player from Fishers (Ind.) Hamilton Southeastern to win the award (Garry Harris, 2012).

He averaged 24.6 points and 9.0 rebounds per game last season.

Three other Big Ten teams have a Parade All-American coming in this season: Indiana (Luke Fisher), Ohio State (Marc Loving), and Iowa (Peter Jok).
