It's always been my view that Nebraska and Illinois have always been the two schools in the conference best-suited to adding varsity hockey if the finances and timeline align properly for them.

Like the article stated the biggest financial obstacle is having an arena and they now have that. I would hope the B1G would actually start talking to schools to add the sport and expand the league.
I have heard the Illinois has a very good club team and may not be far off from adding it as a varsity sport.

Count me as in the group that thinks it would be great to see the Big 10 add a few more hockey teams.
I'd rather see more of Nebraska and Illinois than some of the smaller schools in Michigan. Unfortunately it may hurt schools like WMU, Ferris State, LSSU, etc.., but I'd rather watch big name teams like Nebraska and Illinois come to Yost.

and there is a strong hockey sub-culture in Indiana.
ND has a lot of Indiana kids playing and there are some strong youth teams in Indianapolis.

I was chatting with one of the people in Wisconsin's hockey office a few weeks back and he said that Chelios has been in Chicago working with Northwestern, trying to talk them into going D1 in hockey. Interesting if it's true....It sounded like a few former Badgers are out and about trying to get other schools to look at D1 hockey. I think he said Geoffrion was as well.
